History

After extensive study by a group of parents and educators, the Los Primeros School Plan was approved by the Board of Trustees. The current plan was approved by the Board of Trustees on February 16, 2000. Los Primeros means "the first" in Spanish.

In September 1976, Los Primeros Structured School opened as a separate K-6 school on the Dos Caminos campus. Los Primeros Structured School and Bedford Open were authorized through E.C. 5811 (Dunlap Bill).

Shirley Campbell was President of the Board of Trustees. Charles Honn was Superintendent of Schools when the school: opened. Jan Thomas was the first Instructional Leader.

In 1981, Los Primeros Structured School K-2 classes moved to the Pleasant Valley campus and shared the campus with the neighborhood school. When Las Colinas school opened in 1982, the Pleasant Valley campus was renamed Los Primeros Structured School.

Los Primeros Structured School (K-8) has received the California Distinguished Schools Award twice - in the 1992/93 and 1999/00 school years. In 1993, the school was designated as a County Distinguished School. In 1988, it was designated a Nationally Recognized and County Distinguished School.
