EDS students have certainly followed the latest trend of wearing several bracelets and silly bands ( sometimes dozens!) on their arms. Generally, we have not had major problems with this but they can be a distraction in class. Students that snap the bands, play with them, and disrupt instruction in any way with the bracelets will usually be asked by the teacher to remove them. Please notice the bracelets and bands your child is wearing to assure that the wording on them is appropriate for a PreK-5th grade setting and that bands are not so tight as to restrict blood flow. My general policy on things such as this is to permit them unless they become a serious impediment to our classroom instruction, student safety and well-being. Please contact me if you have any concerns about this growing trend!
Red Ribbon Week at EDS has been so much fun! We began the week wearing yellow for Peace Day. The 3-5th grades had a fantastic assembly about respecting others and never being a bully. On Tuesday, EDS was a sea of blue with sports shirts and team jerseys celebrating the importance ( and fun!) of physical activity. Many students wore red on Wednesday to honor the history of Red Ribbon Week- anti drug use. Thursday was an exciting day! We wore green to show our love for nutritious foods. The best part of the day was meeting Lift Off at our Food Tasting and getting sample all kinds of new fruits and veggies like dragon fruit, persimmon, and quince. I hope we get our pictures in the newspaper! The last day is tomorrow and I hope we'll see lots of people wearing white for Dental Care Day. It's also the day of our Halloween Parade which will be so much fun! I hope all of our staff and students have enjoyed this week as much as I have!
Wow!! Thanks to everyone who joined the PTA this year we have tripled our membership from last year!!! They say "it takes a village" and we are truly raising our children together with this huge support for our PTA. If you haven't already joined there's still time! Membership envelopes are always available in the school office.
Rainy Days!
We know how much kids love the rain....mostly wanting to be out in it getting drenched! On rainy days please send your child to school with a jacket(especially one with a hood!) and/or an umbrella. Our Kid's Way Cafe does not have a covered walkway out to it so without an umbrella food can get wet on the way to the classroom!
Don't forget Tuesday 10/5 is Picture Day!!!
A huge congratulations out to all our 5th grade students that ran for a student council officer role this September! You are all leaders and each one of you did your very best. I am proud of the entire school and the respect they showed to our candidates. I wish all campaigns were as happy and friendly as ours was! Congratulations to our new officers- your first task will be Red Ribbon Week.
