5th Grade Event This is the celebration for our kids that are moving on. It's a great party and we need lots of parents to pull it off. There is truly something for everyone to do, so if you have a graduating 5th grader this is a great way to volunteer.
Assemblies We generally do 3-4 assemblies per year, which are chosen by the chair along with the principal's input. You should be on campus the day of the assembly to insure everything goes smoothly. You also need to make arrangements for MPR set up and anything our visitors might need.
Art Docent This one you can actually sign up for with your teacher. You will do a series of 4-6 art activities in the classroom. Don't worry, you have step by step instructions to follow and materials available to you. It's fun to do it with a partner, too. The Art Docent Program takes place in early Spring.
Book Fair We have two Book Fairs each year, one a couple weeks before the winter holiday break and one at the end of May. We need lots and lots of volunteers for set up, cashiering, organization, Family Night, and clean up.
Box Tops, Escrip, Soup Labels These are ongoing programs that help produce a good chunk of money. We need help with data entry and counting.
Communications Data entry, data entry, did I say data entry? You will also assist in putting together the School Directory.
Dinner/Dance Another event with tons of different ways you can volunteer. From data entry to assembling baskets, from soliciting businesses to set up on the day of the event we need an army to pull this one off!
Earth Week Held in April every year, you will assist the chair in planning activities and ensuring our guests are well taken care of.
Emergency Prep You will assist the chair in making sure our emergency supplies are complete and fresh.
Grant Writing Thousands of grants go unawarded every year. We need help finding grants that make sense for us and applying for those grants.
Jog-a-thon Jog-a-thon is our biggest fundraiser of the year and is held every October. We need help organizing incentives, setting up on the day of, posting progress charts, and many other little things.
Liason to the Camarillo Library We need someone to help us tap into all the wonderful programs at our local Camarillo Library.
Yearbook We need pictures, digital ones, of all our school events. We could also use help with yearbook distribution and possibly data entry.
Recycling We need a team of people willing to collect recycling on a rotating schedule throughout the school year. We also have lots of new projects under our "Growing Green" program and could use your enthusiastic support.
Reflections Here's a program that can use a lot of volunteers. We need people to help with data entry, label making, ribbon awarding, invitation creating, artwork mounting, showcase setting up, showcase cleaning up, pizza ordering...you name it there is something for you to do here.
School Tool Box This program starts in the spring with order form distribution and ends just as we start school in August. We need help with order form assembly and tool box distribution.
Science Night This is a great night of fun and learning for our students. Preparation starts in December, but most of the work takes place in January and February. We need people to sort and organize, run errands, set up for the night, work shifts as lab directors (training provided) and of course clean up! It's the most fun you'll ever have while being useful.
Spirit Wear We need help with set up and take down for school sales. Also, filling orders and folding items.
Staff Appreciation This is quite a production each May. We need help planning activities, gathering our treats and gifts, providing food, and much more!
TAP (Teacher Assistance Program) The ultimate behind the scenes job. You'll be running copies, laminating, cutting, counting, sorting--all for our amazing teachers at La Mariposa. Training is provided and scheduled shifts work best.
Tiger Olympics The Tiger Olympics take place the first week of June. Preparation help is needed in running errands and field set up. LOTS of parents are needed to run track an field events and referee games (training will be provided for game referees).
Women in History We need women that will portray characters for classes during our Women in History Week. Scripts are provided.

Camarillo Academic Olympics (CAO)CAO is held through February and March every two years (on the even years)
for all Camarillo students, 4th-8th grades. We need volunteers on the
school level to set up and monitor testing, escort students, and
judging. For more information on CAO read the Ventura County Star
article here.
100's DayHundred's
Day is the 100th Day of School. Usually it falls the week before
Valentine's Day. As a school, we traditionally collect THOUSANDS of
new, unopened socks (and underwear) for Casa Pacifica. This is where
you come in, we need to collect socks from classes, count them, and get
them to Casa Pacifica. For more information on Casa Pacifica, our 100's
Day Sock Drive, and other ways that La Mariposa Shares click here. Food DrivesWe
hold several Food Drives to benefit Food Share throughout the year.
Usually one or two in the winter and another one in the spring. We need
you to help us organize all the food we collect. For more information
on Food Share, our Food Drives, and other ways that La Mariposa Shares
Health Screening Health
Screening is held across the district in the beginning of each school
year for selected grades. We conduct both vision and hearing testing.
We need volunteers to escort students to and from the screenings.
Picture Day La
Mariposa has two picture days, one in the Fall and another in the
Spring. We can always use help getting classes to their photo shoots,
on time.
Rotary Track Meet The
Rotary track Meet is held late Spring every year. Depending on the
year, 5th and sometimes 4th Graders are invited to participate. We need
parent volunteers to help with our preliminary school meet, organize
awards and T-shirts, and assist our Track coaches. All these duties can
be spread out over a group of volunteers. To read about last year's
Rotary Track Meet click here.
