THE SELECTION PROCESS
With so many outstanding entries, how do we decide which entries move on?

THE CRITERIA
Four pieces in each category and division are selected to move on to the Twelfth District Showcase held in early December.  All pieces are scored and ranked based on the following criteria recommended by the National PTA Reflections Committee:

Interpretation of the Theme: 50%
How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.

Artist Merit/Creativity: 30%
How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.

Mastery of Medium: 20%
The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principals/techniques in the arts area.

THE JUDGES 2010-11
Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.  That's why we made our best effort to find three qualified judges in each category.

Photography
Our photography was judged by two professional photographers and the owner of a local art gallery.  Judging was blind and conducted independently.

Visual Arts
Our visual arts judging panel consisted of a local artist, an art gallery owner, and an elementary school educator with a bachelors in art.

Literature
We used three primary teachers for our primary division and three intermediate teachers for our intermediate division.  All judging was blind (names were not divulged) and conducted independently.

Music Composition, Video Production, and Dance Choreography
Since less than five entries were received, all the pieces move forward for Camarillo Council consideration.
