Advocacy

Every Child. One Voice
The mandate most often forgotten and why National PTA was founded more than a hundred years ago:  Advocacy.  It is our duty to speak for children in our own community, our state, and our country.

Prop 38:  Our Children Our Future
Our Children, Our Future is the education initiative for 2012 - a November ballot measure that will raise over $10 billion in new dedicated funding to help our kids succeed in school and in life.  Our Children, Our Future is sponsored by Molly Munger and the Advancement Project, and is supported by the California State PTA.
We invite Californians from all parts of the state, of all backgrounds and political affiliations, to join this campaign to finally make a real, transformative investment in the education of our children.  Learn more...

State PTA Advocacy Goals
California State PTA (CAPTA) is an association of nearly 1 million members throughout California working to improve the lives of all children and families.

Guided by our members, CAPTA has adopted the following advocacy goals for 2012-13:
  • Adequate funding for education to ensure every child has the opportunity to meet his or her full potential.
  • Prevent bullying and cyber bullying.
  • Access to a full curriculum for every student that includes physical education, arts and STEP (science , technology, engineering, and math).
  • Support children's health by promoting healthy lifestyles and putting healthy and support services within reach,
  • Support the needs of vulnerable children.
  • Promote greater and more meaningful family engagement.

National PTA Federal Public Policy Agenda
Each year National PTA publishes a public policy agenda that outlines policy priorities and recommendations for Congress. The priorities are selected based on the following criteria: timeliness of issue (is it being considered before Congress and the Administration), opportunities for National PTA to provide leadership and expertise to Congress, alignment to National PTA’s mission and resolutions, and ability to achieve a meaningful policy change that will produce positive results for children and their families.

The 2012 Public Policy Agenda features three key policy areas:
  • Education
  • Child health and nutrition
  • Juvenile justice and delinquency prevention
