  • THE STORY OF THE STAINED GLASS - A SRTMS TRADITION!Stained Glass

In 1975-76, the Principal/6th grade teacher, Mr. Fred Cecil, started what has since become a tradition at Santa Rosa School.  He and his class made “Stained Glass Windows” and put them up in the Auditorium.  The lights were left on at night so parents and valley residents could enjoy them.  In 1979, Mr. Joe D’Andrea and his 6th graders added to the windows.  In 1984, Mrs. Bev Hays and her class of 8th graders also made some new ones.  Over the years they had become rather shabby and we were afraid they might not stand up to another year of usage, so Mrs. Lupe Franco, who was an instructional aide for many years, refurbished and laminated them. Mr. Hatland, principal in 1997, in keeping with the tradition, decided to expand the windows to the office and many students made new windows.

Mr. Fred Cecil, originator of the windows, his wife, and three of their children were killed in a car crash in August of 1979.  Our Auditorium bears his name as a memorial.  In part to pay tribute to him, the school placed the windows in the Auditorium each holiday season.  We are pleased that we are able to carry on this tradition since many people who live in Santa Rosa Valley and the many that pass by the school on their way to and from work, have called or come in to express to us their pleasure in seeing the lighted windows. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
