Pleasant Valley School District

Excellence for all.

English Learners

world sunEnglish learners in Pleasant Valley receive a world class education from dedicated and proficient teachers. The multitude of languages and cultures they bring to our school district enrich all of our students and staff. PVSD provides a variety of program options such as structured English immersion and EL mainstream.

As part of the PVSD enrollment procedure, parents/guardians complete a home language survey which identifies students who may speak a language other than English.  Per California Education Code, the CELDT (California English Language Development Test) and primary language assessments are administered to determine the student’s level of English and primary language proficiency.  The CELDT is also administered annually to previously-identified English learners for the purpose of monitoring student progress.

For more information about language assessments and English learner identification you may contact Debbie Maki, ELA/ELD Coordinator at 805-445-8665.
